Does Unicode affects search bots?

I was wondering if the unicode code in links and text affects ranking and/or indexing on Google or in other search engines; for example, if I write
    <a href="http://google.com">Google</a>
    Code (markup):
    is the same as writing
    [IMG]
except that is written on unicode, but browsers display it as normal text (like the first link). So, does it affects?

Google bot sometime not understanding links which contains ? mark as ".asp?id=1".. if the code page is except utf-8..Some time Google report broken links and this is serious issue in ranking also.. So can say Unicode is related to ranking..............
