Hello I have a problem. See, I have a free subdomain at say xyz. freehost.com which is ranking well in G. I wanna buy say xyz. com and I 301 redirect the free subdomain to the new domain. Will that help in transferring the SEO done on the subdomain to the new domain and help it in its ranking. Will it pasee PR, link juice, links everything to new domain and will G now rank the new domain. Pleas clarify and answer only if you are sure. Thanks
Just "drag and drop" the existing web site to the new host. Change the DNS over to the new host and you should be set to go. I don't think a 301 matters in this.
301s are definitely needed if you want your new domain to get credit for the inbound links to the old site. If you want to simply start a new site and start all over trying to make it rank, then just move it and forget the 301s. The domain is changing in the OPs case. So the only way that Google and other engines will know to give the new domain's pages credit for the inbound links to the old domain's pages is via a 301. That is exactly what the 301 is for. However, it is usually next to impossible to get free hosting sites to implement 301s on your behalf, and keep them up indefinitely.
