Hi, i just watched a movie about US School and like in any movie there are bullies and bullied(i believe this is the word, sorry if i got it wrong). So does those things actually happen... like wedgies and such? In my country(Bulgaria) there arent such things in schools... so i was wondering... is it true or is just another thing the movies have made up?
When I was in HS (about 12 years ago) yes, such things happened. It probably doesn't happen quite like in the movies but, yes... that sort of thing is based on reality for sure.
At my school we had bullies. I'm from the U.S. I thought bullies existed everywhere in the world. Thats cool that Bulgaria doesn't have that.
Bullying/peer pressure happens in much more subtle, emotionally damaging ways than wedgies in US schools. I remember way back when I started highschool everyone in my old middle school class thought that we'd get trashcanned and beat up as freshmen. I never saw anyone trashcanned once, and the only fights I ever witnessed in school were between girls fighting over there boyfriends.
Ive never once heard of someone in my school getting a wedgie. Of course there are people who get bullied but 99% of the time its verbal with the 1% being a shove at most. I did go to a small school (700 people k-12) for all but two years though. When I was in a big school (200 people per class) I still didnt see much physical bullying. The movies and every where else always makes bullying seem 20x worse than it really is.
Well here in Bulgaria students are nice to each other and support each other(i mean students from same school). There are students that are deliquent but.. dont do anything to students from their school... the only fights i have seen in schools are between girls(about boys) but still its very rare thing... Usually the nerdy, geeky guys are popular in their classes...
i would say it also depends on the environment people are always being nurtured then being natured. I was scared of all of those bullies, and such I see on videos before I move to US 6 years ago. it appears that there are no such things or pretty rare. Hoewever it may still be happening in some other areas.
ZIB I am sorry to say that the public school system in the US is a wasteland. It may not be as bad as you see in the movies and in many cases it is worse. There is no disipline. There are no standards. Just pass the problem on to the next teacher (no dumbass left behind). Sign me "just one old fart, recalling when".
Doesn't every school (and work place) have bullies? I certainly remember them when I was at school. Thankfully I managed to steer clear of most of them.
Although I am not from the US, I am a high school student today and feel that I am more capable of answering this than any adults here speaking about back in their days... No, adults who direct the movies over emphasise EVERYTHING! Sure bullying happens, but I only see verbal abuse. there are no wedgies or anything. The only fights that occur are among two people, who usually are friends, or simply... Thoes kids who attend special classes because they arnt going anywhere in life. There are no wedgies and what not in Highschool today... Atleast in Canada.
In some cities, yes. Fortunately for me, I'm in a pretty good school so that kind of stuff doesn't happen here.
every school has big shot wanabee tough guy's aka. bullies. But no wedgies but you have to take them down a notch. Just smash your fist in there face
There are bullies in schools where I am from but they are no where as vicious as those being potrayed in US movies and tv shows.
Sure there will be bullies, but NOTHING like what is seen in movies... I know the school I go to has a harassment act/policy, which is very strict.
Of course it happens. The US is one of the most f*cked up country in the world. Haven't you seen in the news many times where some loser kid brings a gun to school & start killing others? Very sad indeed.
