Hi, I have a web site which I do SEO and want a lot of traffic. Let's call it "Site A". I have a couple of more websites whose topics are related to "Site A", but I don't do seo because it is not for any profit.(kind of hobby sites). Let's call them Site B, Site C...etc I put some links from Site B,C etc to Site A with anchor text of my keyword. (This is basic, right?) Site B, C etc don't have high page ranks because I never did link building for these sites. I don't even do SEO for them as I said. Now, does it make sense to put backlinks for SiteB, SiteC etc so that their page ranks get higher? Then The links Site A gets from these sites have more "value"?? If yes, does it matter what kind of anchor texts I use for SiteB,C etc and which kinds of websites I get backlinks from? For SiteA, I try to be careful to use anchor text of target keyword, and also I try to get links mostly from related topic sites. But for Site B, C etc, does it matter if I get links from various topics of websites(not form the same topic)? OR is it still better to get backlinks from related topic sites? And maybe related anchor text? I thought if I were just to make their page rank high, topics or anchor texts don't really matter, do they? But I am wondering if it is still better to have backlinks from related topic sites with related anchor. Thanks
if you can increase the PR of site B and site C then it will definitely be of great help to site A as the PR and trust from site B and C will pass on to site A. since site B and site C is not of commercial nature, there is no need to get the backlinks only from the related site but while doing so don't get totally off the track
Interlinking between your sites is fine as long as you don't overdue it. Understand that if you link between all 3 pages google will notice and that link won't have much value. Seomoz did a "whiteboard Friday" on this subject, you can see it here http://www.seomoz.org/blog/whiteboard-friday-link-farming . The problem in using your own sites to start link building is that you'll have to waste time achieving a PR for B and C when what you really want to rank is A. It is fine to link B and C to A but you should work on building links to A. The other issue with your theory on sites B and C is that since, your site A has 0 authority/PR, and the first links you'll receive are from B and C, which in theory will receive low value (maybe even a little spammy) links, automatically site A will be considered low value/spammy and it will be harder for you in the future to gain google trust. My advice is to forget about B and C, if they are indexed use those links for A but don't interlink B and C. Spend your time building good links for A and you should be fine.
Personally I would say to get some links for B & C so that they pass more link juice to A, although I can understand the argument put forward by seosapien.
I am not sure if this is going to answer you question, but I am willing to take a stab at it. If you place a link from b and c to a then a will recieve two one way links from relevant sites which is good making a the most important site that you own. If you recipricate the links back to b and c from a they will loose authority and be seen by google as a recipricol link rather than a one way link which is not good. What I would recommend going if you want to increase all the sites evenly do a three way link, link a to b and b to c and c to a so all your sites get a one way link. Now if a is your money maker and is the most important of the three then throw links from b and c to a without and leave a alone don't add outgoing links to a this actually hurts a websites ranking.
Site B and C will only work for you if they are getting indexed or better still indexed due to other sites linking to them. Unless they are part of a high PR domain they will struggle to provide any assistant
no if your website B and website C has not more page rank, than you will not have any benefits from site B and site c, you need also promote site B and site C same as site A, also direct promotion of site A will help you more, if your site B and C has high traffic than it can be helpful for you to generate traffic, but in case of PR, you can't get PR it, those sites has no PR where you have back link.
Hi, Thanks for all your advice. In my own situation, Site A has already Pr4, and I did most things what I could. My site Ranked between #8-12 depending on a day, and I want to make it stable under #10, hopefully under #5 in the future. Yes I don't do reciprocal and only using one way to site A. I do reciprocal between site b and c though...
The links you are talking about will give you very little help. Since you are a PR4, then the concept is silly to do. More PR will not help you. Since the keyword target is already on Page 1, you need to get more SEOed links to Site A. This can be done by this Forum's signatrue links or any Blog/Forum link. But the anchor text must be correct. Then, make sure that your On-Page SEO matches the top 10 competitor (by keyword target). This will stabilize your SERP position. The only other thing that might help is if you conduct a small PPC campaign to bring more traffic to your site. But don't get hung up on the PR games. You are a PR4 and that means you can compete with almost anyone.
I suggest posting your entries for B & C on social bookmarking sites every now and then. If you have a link to site A on B & C, then you will get backlings for B & C AND A.
Isn't there some sort of penalty if all of the sites share the same server? If they are virtual hosts on the same server they will even have the same IP. It seems I have read a warning about this somewhere.
Thanks HomeCoputerGames, I actually host them on the different servers! (I sterted my sites when multiple domain hosting was not popular yet, therefore I had several servers and I kept them even after they started offering multiple hosting. It cost me a bit but now it might be helping me in a way, ha ha...) Social bookmarking for Site B, C etc would be great idea too.
