hi, if i was to buy a domain eg: my--site.com rather than my-site.com would it matter for search ranking please?

eg: all the my-site.com is taken but my--site.com is to buy.
    silly idea?
    options?
    1.buy the my--site.com domain?
2.or buy something similar without a gap?

basically i typed into google eg: jane--austen and all the results were the same as jane austen.
so i was thinking the domain must have some kind of good relation to a new site. eg: new site called: jane austen
why add 2 -- because all the domains are taken, it was just a thought whether it was good or bad, thanks.

2 hyphens sucks. most people will just type one and go to your competitors site instead of yours.
