My site is at the early stages and therefore very unfinished. It will be an eccomerce site. Please can a look at http://www.buymetickets.co.uk/new/new.html and http://www.buymetickets.co.uk/new/ticketinformation.html Other than the rollovers (which need to be resized) does this site look professional? Can you recommend improvements? Many thanks
Thats a good looking site, and it have to be if you are gonna sell. I would buy from a site like that.
Awwww thanks lol. I was a little worried the ticket pictures look a little naff and maybe the buymeticket.co.uk font was a bit immature. Maybe I being too negative? I hope to get a programmer to sort my cart so am just working on the template for him to use.
The header doesn't look professional.. I think it's because of the outdated bevel and emboss style.. I would design something more cleaner.. web 2.0 perhaps. The rest of the layout is clean and professional however
i can't say that i am a fan of it. the bevel and soft edges are... well to be honest, hurtful... and the font header should be more sleek than funky. especially when you want a 'professional' look. as of right now i think it has potential... but it's going to take a lot of love. i don't mean to be harsh with my comment or anything but i think that i should be honest about how i feel. and by that, attempt to help you to make it better. Regards, ansi
also, you should probably check this out. alistapart.com/articles/slidingdoors/ as the text on the 'ticket info' tab expands past the background in firefox 2. and also for that more 'professional' look when it comes past the visual aspect of your website, you could work on getting the code to validate. Validation Results: HTML: Failed. [E:49/W:0] CSS: Failed.
no - i prefer honest comment. I'm not a designer so anyone with help i appreciate. So the buymetickets.co.uk - need a new font (any suggestions) and what would you do instead of bevel/emoss and drop shadow? The ticket image - is horrible - what could make that better? Is the rest of it ok? and as for web 2.0 - its not a thing - rather than a concept of moving forward? right? ty for the link.
oh and i know the coding isnt great. thrown together. needed to get some ideas up there first. the ticket info tab is an image - i just haven't customed them yet.
Drop the .co.uk bit from the header, it's a bit old skool having that there. I like the ticket images.
Hey, it looks prefessional, however the header (http://www.buymetickets.co.uk/new/left.jpg) is pixelated around the edges. Clean that up I think your good to go. Well done.
> Drop the .co.uk bit from the header, it's a bit old skool having that there. I thought this might make people remember the address easier - maybe I'm wrong. Having a simple bookmark us would probably be just as good right? Many thanks for everyones suggestions
I don't think it looks particularly professional at all, I'm afraid. The button styles and square edged boxes are dated, the gradient background and font choice for the header are poor, and the ticket images are grainy. You can fix the tickets by creating vector versions of the graphic and scaling them as required before saving them as optimised jpegs. With the title of the site I wouldn't necessarily look for some nice font to do the job for you - basic fonts in combination with a well designed logo are often more effective - perhaps it's worth outsourcing your logo design, as this can go a long way towards imparting a professional look to a site. In addition when the text size is increased (which mine permanently is) the text on your buttons lies outside the actual background image. You might look into a CSS technique called sliding doors to fix this (search for "CSS sliding doors").
Would be very time consuming to make vectors of the tickets which look photographic. Would be far easier to just scan a real ticket, to create a larger HQ original, which can be sized down accordingly. Also, few people use JPG files now, PNGs are much better.
