I've seen people sell sites where the main thing they had going for them was age as opposed to revenue or anything else. The seller even said (when someone asked) It's PR 4 but who cares, the real value lies in the site's age. Makes me think I should sell my old unprofitable sites...
I HAD always believed that that age was an important thing. HOWEVER I have just bought a two year old domain, and scrapped it's website. Pounded it with PR for the anchor text. And nothing has happened, OK it is a competitive keyword, but if they werent we wouldnt be here. I did it partially as a SEO experiment, but the domain isn't performing nearly as fast as I had hoped. Still the BL export should start soon. That may help. Age of domain. Not as convinced as I was two weeks ago.
Its not just the age of the domain that helps but the age of the backlinks. Old backlinks are really highly regarded by google and you just can't fake these even with old domains.
Age of domain matters as well as the years it is registered for. For example a three year old domain which expires after 7 years will be much more respected than a domain that expires in one year and was purchased yesterday.
It certainly does help backlinks or not. However, it does really depend on the competition. Take a look at the top 10 for the keyword you are trying to tackle. If you can find sites that are fairly young 0-2 years old ranking in the top 10 it's not really a neccessity to get an aged one and it also gives you the freedom of choosing your own name. Then again, if you look at the top 10 and it's a very competitive term you may see domains that are 5+ years or older and in that case it would be very wise to pick up an aged one IMO. I recently decided to tackle a very competitive phrase which has most sites in the top 10-20 with atleast a 7+ year old domain. I snatched up a domain registered in '99, setup my site and did minimal link building. It really was minimal because I sort of put the site on the sidelines for now. The other day I started noticing an increase in traffic so I looked into it and it turns out I am creeping up in the top 100 for a very competitve phrase so I was rather surprised. Time to take the site "off" the sidelines and start pumping more links and content out
Yes, It matters. If you have an old domain, you are free from SANDBOX effect. (applicalble to new domain only)
domain is very important ex. whan you want to buy the books you go to google.com and search " buy books " if you have wxw.buy-books.com domain and you do seo i think your web is the first!
