Read my previous post.. it says that huge page size takes time to load so crawlers face da problem to crawl the pages.
second thing do the analysis on search engine you wont find pages on SERPs more than 30K ..

Did you read my post linking to a test performed at sitepoint, that provided data disproving this?

Problem crawling a page because it is big? Did we go back to 1994?

Index is just the first step. It doesn't equal to good ranking

Sorry... I can't verify that. I'm seeing 95k 72k, 107k.. so I'm not sure about "size of page".. On top of that, search engines love those PDF's and those get pretty big.

I do know that most of the time these questions depend on how long your website has been active and listed. I also know it depends on how often content is added. It also depends on how many dead links you have and how often.

Asking questions like this and trying to answer them is always out of context. I have a page rank of 5 on one website and 3 on another. I know i can get away with more on my 5 than on my 3.

I have a site that I'm putting a novel on, I know that it is all relevant, unique and content oriented, while also using the same terms and vocabulary as the rest of the site. Hasn't affected my page rank at all, or my SERP.

Yet I put one single article on another site I have, and my traffic increases for a week.

Now, I know why all of those things are happening, but they all have to do with the particular website, and all the factors regarding that website.

.. heck, try it and find out <shrug>

if you have a clean html page, it is quite hard to get a page so big...

and he said in the article that he use randomly generated the page. The reason of not indexed might becuase the page is just junk..not the size

yes it will matter for big keywords.if content is huge with lot of keywords and updating daily then google love it.main thing is if site is big then site wide links become very powerfull, so if u add footer link in big sites other site PR will increase lot

Size affects indexing, not ranking. Once the document is in the index, the search engine has access to all the infoirmation it needs to rank that document.

Is there a part of the ranking algo that says: if (page size > x) then rank lower? I doubt it. Why would anybody code an information retrieval system that devalues information just because of its size? That doesn't make sense.

This factor for SERPs has been confirmed that size of your page doesn't really matter. (though it is recommended that size should not be too big for surfers)

I *think* size (KB, not page quantity) affect ranking, because it should affect, at least IMHO and that's how I would design a SERP.

Imagine this: User types keywords, searchs for something. Given two similar webpages that will probably satisfy the search, one is 5KB of text and a couple images, from a server that compress the output, and the other is 5KB of text, but it has dozens of images, the server is laggy, two sidebars of advertisements (flash graphics), background music (a 250k midi file), etc... what page would you serve first?

Page size is part of UI, usability and user experience, and that's a good goal to pursuit.

Of course, sometimes doesn't matter. For example, the webpage or its domain has waaaay more inbound links, citations, that kind of stuff, so Google will rank it first. But given two similar content that would probably satisfy the user, rank the easier to use (and get!) first.

Huge page size is not good for the bots. It defends on the content of your page.

Hey Guys we have deviated from the topic a bit.

Question is only that will the size of website as a whole affect ranking. Suppose we have 1000 pages each of size (say 15 kb) then overall size of website is 15 MB.

Now will this 15MB matter as a whole even if the size of page is 15kb which is optimum ?

I doubt the number of pages has an influence on your ranking...remember: quality counts, not quantity

The larger the amount of pages a website has, the better it is because.

    (1) It has more pages so it has more maintenance
    (2) The people of the site have put more time into it
    (3) The site is good not to have violated Google with even that quantity of Pages

Google considers all that, so, yes

IT DOES NOT HURT YOU AT ALL, lol ive been doing this since 95 and the size will not affect anything if the site has been properly done
