Does the script of Hover pops hurt SEO?

    Hi
I recently purchased a program called instant pop up maker.
It will allow me to create those Hover ads that pop up on many websites. It is almost unstoppable and search engines can’t see it.
However I have a great concern about it. It generated a lengthy code (Java script) for the popup and it instructs me to paste it right on the top of my page, above even the Meta tags and everything. I know serps are not a big fans of java script and I am wondering won't this ruin the chance of being indexed? Or will this hurt me in any way from the SEO point of view?

The second disturbing thing is the exit popup. I would need to put a safe exit code in all of those hyperlinks where I don't want the pup up window to appear.
But it would be at least an average 20 links per page. Now on a 2000 pages website it would make quite a bit of work to put this popunder up not to mention that search engines wouldn’t like it.

I will appreciate any help Thanks Laszlo the inkjet cartridge guy.

This will not ruin the chance of being indexed but it is not advisable to do so since you will not be able to complete with other competitors with Rich Content (Text to Code Ratio).

Your JS codes hurt in both ways, one is it lowers the Text to Code Ratio (which is no good) and the other one is placing on top of the page (this takes up space that is meant for your content..)
Avoid JS hyperlinks as SE have problems seeing them.

However, if you must use the JS way.. then I would propose the following tweaks for your page:

    1. Put the JS codes (functions / declarations) in an external file.
    2. Create a HTML version of the links at the bottom of your page for the Search Engine.

Refer to my site, USESEO in my sig for how to do the above.

This cannot be avoided unless you are using server side scripting like PHP.. then you can include all those codes by changing one file.. but the thing is that you have to include the file into the pages in the first place..

All in all, I do not see any great benefits on changing the links. Maybe you can try some CSS based links (for visual effects etc) instead.

What is this "JS hyperlink" exactly? Hyperlink with the code in them?

I also use a PPC tracking softrware and I generate URLs with it is it the same?

Thanks a lot Laz the inkjet cartridge guide.

    JS == JavaScript :)

If you cannot see the navigation links (coded in JS) when you disable your browser's JS support then most likely Search Engine cannot see them as well..
