Does the "No ODP" Metatag Effect Google SERPS? Open Directory Project NOODP

My photographer buddy had issues with Google indexing the ODP title and description of his website, so I threw in the metatag which strips the ODP data and uses what is actually on the page. Once Google crawled his site it recognized the metatag and indexed his website with the correct title and description. After 3 months of using the metatag his website has been decreasing in traffic, and in the google SERPS! His website which was on the first page of google has PR3 and thousands of backlinks has slipped to the last pages! Could the ODP have an effect on a site like this? Here is the url I'm referring to. The keywords he used to be on page 1 for was "San Francisco Wedding Photographer"

All I can say if it has then this is the very first time I have ever heard of it...

And it's quite a common meta tag to use

I highly doubt the odp metatag would affect your rankings. I think the problem has more to do with your links. When I checked your backlinks through Yahoo it showed dozens of links from .info domains, which could've set off some type of spam filter. I checked a few of those .info blogs and they do not have PR, which could mean they are banned by Google. These blogs all had the exact same post with the same link anchor texts. It just screams 'SPAM'.

You need a much better link profile. You need quality links with your anchor text, not just blogposts and sitewide links all with the same text. You need to vary your link anchor text and make your linking look natural.
