Why waste your time? Do you need to use Microsoft's product? You can get MySQL for free - or any number of other free databases. What is your goal?

You can download the free version here: http://www.microsoft.com/sql/editions/express/default.mspx

Very powerful tool to have knowledge of if you are planning on working in the development and business world. Dont let people discourage you just because it is from microsoft, this is an awesone product. MSSQL is a very powerful database base engine, but like any program, it has a time and a place.

If you are just doing smaller sites, or sites that are not mission critical, i have to agree that mySQL is a good and portable choice.

    Hi:
Initially, I use the PHP and MYSQL to build up the databse. Just one day ago, I received a E-mail from my company, whcih told me "The company server is supporting .NET and ASP currently'. I think it is very likely using the MSSQL server. ~.~"

Another reason to use MSSQL not mentioned here is the native support for XML that MySQL can't touch.
