    Does the domain name extensions like (.ws, .us, .net, .com, .org etc) play a vital role in optimizing a website .

    Not in optimizing, but when it comes to return visitors it helps if you obey the proper rules.

    The major role the extensions play would be the value of the domain, of'course .com is the most valuable. There are plenty of sites with other extensions that have top rankings in the search engines.

    The extension doesn't mean anything in SEO, its the actual domain that matters. Although yes CCTLDs can influence Localized Search Engine results, but I think that also depends on the country of the person who has registered it.
