Does the California National Guard have enough resources to help with the fires

Ever since the Guard has taken a significant role in Iraq there have been questions about the capacity of the Guard to help in emergencies. This came up with the Katrina storm, more recently with floods in Kansas and now it is resurfacing with this disaster which might require upwards of 1 million people to relocate plus dealing with natures fires that (last I heard) might not get under control for another week.

Do you think or have evidence that the Guard has the capabilities to help in this emergency?

I didn't realize that soldiers were considered firefighters, and from what I have seen on the news, it appears that the local authorities have the situation pretty well under control. People are cooperating, no riots are being reported, and people are vacating their homes when asked to do so. Do we need the guard there? Besides, in response to the guard, it is a NATIONAL guard, not just specific for each state.

The national guard is under the direct command and control of the Governor during peace time and can only be called to national duty during federal emergencies or times of war at which time they are under the president's command.

Capitializing national as if you were highlighting it for those less intelligent than you made it all that much more of a good laugh for me this morning.

    Thanks.

You provided additional resources. Thanks! As you said, at times of war and federal emergencies they are under the president's command. So the OP having implied that only California's guard could be used is shown by you to be incorrect. I capitalized it to show this as well...not sure why you are laughing since we are making the same point.

Baraba Boxer made a similar allegation by trying to politicize this, the other day. Not sure the dems will be able to score any political points by trying to blame the fires on Bush, but if any group of people would try...

Question: Are all of California's National Guard deployed to fire duty currently, and if not, why not?

Why do they need the national guard? There have been a total of two arrests for looting, and the people inside qualcomm stadium are having a freaking party. They say it's like Woodstock without the drugs.

Just dems trying to blame Iraq and Bush. Business as usual. They want to make everyone into a victim, even if the people don't want to be victims. lol

I agree. Even more disturbing is the fact that a number of cities in California have tried to ban the military at colleges and schools; made military recruiting offices the targets of hatred and vandalism.

Where are the dems on these issues?

I wondered how long it would take for someone to find a way to tie Bush to the fires in California..

Ultimately, if not for these loony environmentalists, there would be no heavy brush, and no heavy over abundance of trees.

    So much for hugging trees..
