Does the amount of words in a domain name really matter?

Having recently bought some 3D domain names and asked for an appraisal , the subject of how many words in the domain name has cropped up!

    How important is this?

It seems to me that if you have 3 or 4 punchy short words in a domain name that are a search phrase with 30 million plus 'googles' that it would be fine on a .com name.

What your take on this please.

In my own experience is not about Google search results but about name itself and potential buyers. What is good for one might not be that good for another

Wordy domain names don't take into consideration lazy users. Add an "s" change the tense of a word and the user will not get to your site.

i think is all about how creative with words...and the shorter the words the better for you people dont really like long sounding words, something they can easily remember will be fine

Short sharp domains that capture the phrase you're targeting work best in my opinion.
