Hi, I've heard that semantic mark up, bold etc, can affect serps. So if I decrease the size of my text, will that hurt it in the serps? I know stupid question Im new
The size of your text will probably not affect your serps. It does seem that <h1> and <h2> tags help with keywords, and there are many factors that we don't know anything about that go into the search engine formula, but I don't think hyperlink size is one of them.
Ok, thx I have another question that'll Ill try to ask in this same thread. When a search engine searches for words that someone has typed in the search box, do they look for hyperlinks also? Or just plain Text?
hi woahdolla, let me refer you to rand's article on different factors of SEO: http://www.seomoz.org/articles/search-ranking-factors.php Lots of relevent information there (even if it is approaching 1 year old). I hear he might be doing an update soon too.
Wow thanks, gonna read through that in a min. Do you know when soemone searches something in google if google pulls up hyperlinks that have the keywords in them?
I think you're misunderstanding my question. Im simply ask, If I, as a regular web surfer, go to google and type in "pizza", will google pull back results of hyperlinked text AND plain text that contains the word "pizza", or will it ONLY pull up plain text?
Search engines are basically searching for text (anchor text included) occurances anywhere within a document (title, body, etc.) when you enter a word or phrase into the search box unless you use an advanced search operator such as link:www.yoursite.com to search just for hyperlinks.
