I'm wondering if I do a mass submission to directories and use similar anchor text whether it will help or hurt my Google ranking. Will Google ban if you submit your site to 500 directories with same anchor text?
a spin of your question: do you think that if your competitor submit your website to 500 directories with the same anchor text google will ban you ?
Does it help or does it not help? Seemed to be getting conflicting answers, I have been submitting manually and boy is it tiring work! Hope someone can give me a definitive answer so that at least I can stop or work harder.
If you use the same or very similar anchor text its not good, if you submit to 500 with same anchor text it doesn't look natural. To give you an idea, im currently submitting a site to directories, already got plenty submissions behind it, and i have 47 different Titles that im using with it. As much as you think your saving time, i would recommend plenty of differennt titles, from time to time write a new description, try and get some of the links to internal pages, also from different countries, also from different languages.
Sorry to ask so many questions, from what I read for eg if I want my keyword to be Australia Accounting, I should be hammering at this as an anchor text all the way. What you are saying is I shouldn't? But if I do not do that, won't it dilute the effect of my submissions? Say Australia Accounting, do you need I need to key in for eg Australia Accounting Services, Services in Australia Accounting, Melbourne Based Accounting and all these variations? The different language part I am also not clear, do I need to translate to other languages and submit as anchor text?
Il try and answer as best as i can but im no expert on this Yes if your wanting to rank for a keyword of phrase then understandably you will want to gain as many backlinks as you can for that phrase, but you dont want 90% of them with Australia Accounting only, you can add a word or two at the begenning, middle, end, make sure those words are on the page somewhere, i mean the page that you will be submitting. Some sites and pages make it easier for adding extra keywords. I dont think you will dilute the effect as the use of various keywords other than the main one you want to rank for, is still going to contribute to the overal aim. You can end up ranking well for your main keyword phrase plus a bunch of others, you then end up getting some traffic possibly from those other keywords your ranking for, it helps you see what people are searching for to reach you even more and gives you even more hints at additional keywords that you could be using. Say Australia Accounting, do you need I need to key in for eg Australia Accounting Services, Services in Australia Accounting, Melbourne Based Accounting and all these variations? Regarding your above example, yes like that, make sure your business covers those keywords locations etc or if your listing sites or something that the content is existing somewhere in the pages. Over time you find more and more keyword variations that you can target, it looks better, looks natural, results in more traffic, targets varying searches.
The different language part I am also not clear, do I need to translate to other languages and submit as anchor text? wisdomtool i translate the Anchor, Description, Keywords text into the other language of the directory. So you get a link back from say a french directory and you make your submission in french. Again i feel it looks natural, its not going to do you any harm that im aware of, it could bring international or increased international traffic. But dont submit your site to a french directory and fill the form with english text as it will either be rejected or if they accept it looks strange having your english language listing sitting in between french listings. Of course some non english language directories have a specific regional section where you can submit in english. On my directories for example, in the regional section i will accept a site from anywhere in the world and in their own language too, from german to botswana. Cater to and for the world.
Most established directories will edit your submission anyway, so I would'nt worry about duplication.
Even if the question includes directories I don't think this is the right forum to ask it. Directory owners are no experts in link building, they don't have to be and you won't get an unbiased answer anyways. Link development forum: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/forumdisplay.php?f=13
By the time they'll get to your link, it will be days and weeks. So I don't think it will hurt, unless you start doing hundred every day.
I agree with this and understand the time variables but i too believe that to many to fast can do more harm then good especially if your using the same anchor tag in everyone and the site is brand new. thx malcolm
This is what I always do...not because this is my intention...but because I always change my mind on the anchor
Also check out the overture keyword tool. Type in 'Accounting' and see what other keywords come up in your niche. That will give you some ideas on what keywords to use in your anchor text. The data is a year old, but probably still useful for the accounting niche.
