Does submitting to free directories help search engine rankings?

The more links the merrier, just make sure it really is a directory and not FFA

 

It seems to work for me, especially if your site is new.

 

It really does help, I offer this service and there are some huge boosts in the SERPS if it is done properly and manually.

 

I think it's worth posting on directories (free and paid) as part of a wider link building programme. If you're looking for free directories then I wouldn't bother with a list from 2006 as I suspect most of them will either no longer exist or will be paid to submit/review.

 

the best thing to do is scan the directory sites manually. Check its status, the links, and make sure it is not heavily spammed by bad links..

 

directory submission is the basic step in link building and it helps a lot.

 

Every Link helps, if you have the time to do it, it will help build more traffic to your site in time.

1. Choose the relevant directory
2. Submit your site only once
3. Submit your homepage only
4. Choose the relevant sub-category from the list
5. Read the submission guideline
6. Use email address from the same domain
7. Build your link slowly
