Yes directory links will count towards your backlinks, however it can take months so keep submitting and be patient.

SEMSpot is right, it does take a little bit for the links to show up, but eventually they will!!

Yes, directories is a good one way links.... But it depends on the directories you are submitting... Some may approved in less than 2 days time while others takes months...:D

Don't stop submitting there continue to submit to directories...more backlinks...

It gives you a backlinks to your site, no matter how small or not popular is the directory you are in to. As most recommend - keep building the links to your site and wait for a results. This is the key.:)

Make a budget and invest in quality directories links.
If not it will take a life to see ur site doing traffic.

I would also advise to submit on a few paid directories apart from the free ones. Also try to find quality directories don't just submit to any. You don't want your link to be on the same page with 2 shop stores and 3 viagra sites, do you? :)

Patience and persistence is the biggest factor. Just keep working, and it will eventually come. :)

    A suggestion:

Go daily to Digital Point's "Solicitations and Announcements" sub-forum. There you will find each day a variety of new postings for both free and paid directory submissions. Go ahead and submit as your time and budget allow.

The brief time it will take you each day will, over the course of a year, gain you hundreds, perhaps thousands of new backlinks. And some (not all, of course) of these directories are of very high quality. Among the paid directories belonging to DP members are some directories from which I am getting the double benefit of (1) a nice PR link with my chosen anchor text and (2) some modest traffic.

You might also consider outsourcing the submitting process to a freelancer site such as elance.com, scriptlance.com or rentaguru.com

Furthermore, there are programs out there that heavily accelerate the process as well, I can only remember directorysubmitter.com , which was recommended by Dr. Andy SEO a while back.

Though its contribution is minimal, it is one good way to increase your backlinks. :)

It sure does, in fact some directories give you deep links as well which help your entire site, not just one page.
