Does submitting a sitemap to yahoo impact negatively?

    Hi folks! :D

I started submitting my sitemap regularly to Yahoo Site Explorer about 2 months ago, and yahoo has practically stopped indexing any more of my pages since then.

So right now, my site has 222 pages, and Yahoo has indexed only 15(from 2 months ago).

As a point of reference, Google has indexed 103 pages, and MSN has indexed 40 pages.

Why would yahoo index only 15?? Did the sitemap have anything to do with that?

    Thanks in advance! :D

sitemaps do not mean your content will get crawled or indexed.

well thats quiet strange... I don't think submitting sitemap to yahoo... should stop the site from Indexing your pages altogether...

Its not the sitemap, try to get more links to your site, also deep links will get bots to crawl deeper into your site.

I agree that sitemap don't mean your site will be indexed fully. Try relevant links.

By submiting sitemap on yahoo i dont think yahoo will crawl the site. Will automatically crawl within few days whether submitted or not.. But it wont give any negative impact

It doesn't give a negative impact since sitemap helps SEs to crawl your inner pages faster..

Maybe something you have done not right...

Just out of curiosity could you provide the URL to the site you are talking about as I would like to see if there is anything preventing it from being crawled?

I think I have finally figured it out. :)

The 15 pages(out of 222) that Yahoo has indexed all contain lots of text.

The rest of my pages contain about 20 words per page, with dozens of numbers, spread over hundreds of pages. My site predominantly provides pure technical data ie. voltage, frequency, length.

So here's what I think. Google's and MSN's algorithms are smart enough to realise that information doesn't only come in the form of pages full of text. Their algos realize that my site provides relevant content(information) with just numbers, and random words that can't be strung together to form a sentence. There are people on the internet searching for these numbers, and my earnings has at least doubled every month.

So Yahoo's algorithm isn't smart enough to recognise content that isn't purely textual in nature. :)

Yes it does if your sitemap is of lower quality than the default sitemap of the CMS you're using.
