Does Size Matter? :)

I have a site running differnt size adSense banners on different pages. The content is narrowly focused, so the different adSense banners are serving up the exact same ads. The 468 x 60 text banner is paying MUCH higher than the 336 x 280 rectangle for the same ads. Has anyone else noticed this?

    Cheers

It all depends on the placement and who is visiting your site. The banner ad at the bottom of my forum gets the most clicks for me. It displays the ads under the quick reply box and the "who's online" box.

The common myth is that smaller Ads will bring in a higher CTR, due to being less intrusive, etc. I've never really checked for it, since I've always been doing fine with my ad placements.

Let me clarify my statement a little. I mean that the rate for a single click is higher for the same ad in the 486 x 60 than it is for the 336 x 280. On a scale of three times higher. Is there a "Golden" adSense ad size? Does Google penalize you for using big, obtrusive ad sizes? Please share!!

We're talking ads, you dirty bird.

I believe it depends on the quality of the site. I'll put this into example. A friend of mine runs proxies as I do. He has 25, currently. He earns the same amount as my 5-proxy network earns. He gets tons more impressions/clicks, but the ads are not quality, because he hasn't worked on many of the sites. I've individually developed each of mine, and I guess that counted towards the "higher paying ads" option.

This thread should be prove that the content matters. There would not be 9 ppl here if the title didn't appeal.

    MG,

The larger ad is getting more clicks, but the smaller ad is getting a better payoff per click for the same ads. Both adSense positions are on the same site (not the one in my signature) and seem to be cycling through the same 20-25 ads. A click for Joe's Shrimp Shack is paying much higher in the smaller ad spot than it does in the bigger one. Am I making sense?

    Cheers

What i can say is lots of people did tests and almost always it turned out that the large rectangle is the best performing ad.
Now it also depends on the colors and your template etc.
Basicly what you want is to put the ad in front of the visitors and make it blend in as much as possible still being within the tos of course

I've been having good luck with the 468 x 60 ad too. I think it all depends on placement and the scheme of your website. I've had smaller ad's get more attention on one of my sites, but it's all about placement.
