Excessive site wide linking can definitely hurt your rankings.

Which is why I give all my competitors site wide links - so I can destroy them in Google.

What would be your idea of excessive site wide linking? (I know i may sound like i'm being a smart ass...but i'm not :)...i'm thinking about changing the links I offer on my sites from sitewide, to non-site wide...so i'm just trying to do a little research on if it would be a good offer or not)

Excessive is hard to define especially when considering Google lol, but if a very large part of your linking comes from sitewides, its time to rethink your strategy or risk get filtered.
