Ha..Ha..,Speda1, I agree, Silent' didn't phrase the question(s) very well. But the answer(s) is: SEO is most valuable in marketing your website; getting traffic, and if you have a brick-n-motar location, a web presence can certainly be helpful in increasing visitors and customers.
my site got indexed by google in 3 days which generates at least 11 hits a day without me doing anything
Basically, people uses search engine to search for sites/products to buy or anything that they are looking for. SEO helps to make your site rank better on targeted keyword and it returns traffic. Those are your potential buyer/users for whatever site that you're doing. SEO is very important regardless of what you're doing on the web.
Search engine optimization is the task of taking a Web site's content and optimizing it so that the phrases people search for (called keywords) can be found on the major search engines. Anyone who's taken the time to write qualitiy content that's optimized for both their human visitors (it doens't sound like a broken record or a sales pitch) and the search engines (targeted keywords that people are searching for) will obviously want their pages (note I said pages, not sites; since search engines rank pages and for the most part could care less about sites) to appear at the top of the search engines' results pages (SERPs). Most people are mistaken by what they consider SEO to be, and thus chase after the latest SEO tricks and gimmicks the way that desperate third-rate lawyers looking for their next meal chase after ambulances. Not only is this a waste of their time (especially when you consider the limited returns compared to the amount of time invested in getting those returns), but it's also unnecessary. Focus on the fundamentals, which are writing quality content that people would killl their own mothers to link to, code your Web site using proper semantic markup that follows the proper source code order (header, menu, content, sidebar(s), footer) to maximize the benefits of the keywords that are already in the content (traditional typographic and literary conventions really work well here), and then promote your Web site (tell your friends, and have them tell their friends, and have their friends tell their friends, and so on) so that you can get the word out that your site exists. Put your Web site's URL in your business cards, mailing letters, official correspondence (like your stationary) so that your clients know about your site as well. Even placing the URL on your storefront (if a B&M) will help - a lot of tatoo parlors here in Aurora, Illinois are doing that and it helps to reinforce thier brand. In other words, light a fire under other peoples' rear ends so they start talking about you - and let's face it. A lot of people spend a lot of time online, maintaining blogs and the like - chances are good that if they like your Web site and what it provides, they'll talk about it, the people who read those blogs will talk about it as well. It's called word of mouth marketing. There's even a book on the subject called "Word of Mouth Marketing - How Smart Companies Get People Talking" by Andy Sernovitz, with a forward by Seth Godin and an afterword by Guy Kawasaki. I highly recommend reading that (it should be available at your local public library). (Off-Topic: gocubs19, are you a fellow Chicago Cubs fan by any chance?)
