Does SEO even work anymore?

Some times its like a battle that feels like it can't be won. I build links daily from HIGH PR Sites ,articles, blogs, forums etc. and no matter how hard a push a keyword theres no change in Google or yahoo!.
it wasn't like this last year. it seems like this year everyone in the top positions is a dinosaur with weak back links. Heck im stuck behind a site that has no meta tags!.. only a title tag!. that domain is 15 years old.

Anyone else feel like this ?

SEO campaigns should still have an important role to play in a company's digital marketing strategy next year, despite the wide array of other potential advertising channels available to companies.

Part of the issues have to do with the reference, whether your techniques are favored by Google, or by someone else. Unfortunately, we have to choose to whom we are optimizing, which might be less of a method from the standpoint of another reference or platform, Yahoo.

    How fresh is your content?

The other reference point is your competition, of course, as you've indicated. Some of the expert tools might better help to focus on who you're up against.

SEO has changed dramatically with the growth of social media. Your site's popularity in Google is closely related to your popularity in Facebook, so no matter how hard you try go optimize for Google, you may never succeed if you don't make the same effort for social media sites as well.

This year Google seems to have caught up on spam links. Blog commenting and forum spamming do not work anymore.
You will need to get the links from high ranking and relevant sites .

SEO still works, but the Search engines are always evolving and so should SEO. Online marketers that are able to evolve as does the Search engines are those that succeed. I am writing a 200 page ebook on that matter at the moment, SEO is as important as ever, but it is evolving and you should fallow the evolution.

I hear you, it can be frustrating. Some of my newer sites G likes and get to the first page quickly. Other sites G doesn't like at all, with the same SEO and effort.

Dont take an offense on what im goint to say, but, when exactly was link building or spamming seo. Links where a a way to measure how ppl around the web liked a web paged. If lots of web linkt to another one was because that was a web full of quality content ppl liked and found usefull.

Thats no longer thruth. Because links have been used to fake a web acceptance among the rest of the internet now search engines have stopped using links as a reference.

Now only legitimate webs with ppl behind working hard to put new content everyday are gettting search engines support.

And thats the way is meant to be.

Im not only a webmaster, im also internet user. And as internet user i dont want search engines to push up webs that are playing dirty tricks to reach a place.

Again, honest content is the only way find search engines approval.

I usually use social media to get traffic to my site. SEO tends to sorta take care of itself.

It all depends on Google. If it thinks that your site is "good enough", Google will "help" you advance in your business, you know what you are going to achieve if Google thinks that your site is "Not good enough" ;)

seo is still a massive part of marketing and still very do-able we dp have to dig deeper into certain areas i agree but the search engines are a great way to drive traffic ... but the key is to not rely on them and still use many other techniques.

i saw that someone mentioned that commenting and spamming is picked out better from google ... well spamming is not going to get any one anywhere in the long run..
the key is to leave comprehensive replys to posts and concentrate on finding authority sites to link from.
obiously spread your links around but you can not do without authority do follow links these days.

all my seo campaigns still have great results. remember to ping your backlinks so that they get indexed quicker. if you don't it can take weeks for google to spider those backlinks and ur sitting there thinking that ur campaign is producing no results.
