If someone sold permanent links that must stay with the site, (say in a links.html page), does that really hurt the resale value?

I've watched sites go up for sale, and invariably someone always asks, "do the links have to stay?"

    I mean, so what!

Personally I wouldnt care either way...
Whats the big deal about keeping a links page?

    thoughts?

People ask this for a couple reasons
    1. If those are sitewide links on say a directory or blog site, somebody is paying for them. Usually at least a couple dollars a month apiece, with 20 links thats 40$ a month coming in, which is some good income!
    2. if your talking about links on a link page sometimes those will have to be kept as they are reciprocal links. Taking them off would result in a major drop in incoming links.

I think most of the time people are talking about the "footer" and sitewide links though, because they want to sell them.
