Does anybody use rss and notice that it brings traffic to your blog, if so, how many rss subs do you feed and what percentage actually hit your blogs? Any info on rss is welcome - in terms of traffic generation.
You could say it brings traffic - one of my blog entries last month had 2,500 page views from an RSS feed. In software like Wordpress, you can set if you want just a snippet of text from your blog entry, or the full text. They are also RSS directories where you can submit your RSS feed - a good one is Feed24
Thanks for that feed24 link Darren. I just added my site and then searched a random word 'news' - it came up with 3 of my entries at the top with links to my site. 2,500 hits from an rss feed - i guess the difficult thing to do is to get people subscribing to that feed - right? or is there something i'm missing? the reason i asked this question was because i thought adding snippets of your blog in a forum might help bloggers with traffic. Imagine 50 bloggers adding posts in the forum in the relevant section. Just small snippets of their latest blog. Visitors would criss-cross blogs through the forum. Bloggers would post their blogs (or snippets of!) in a thread in the forum for forum visitors to read and decide for themselves if they want to visit. Since i came up with this idea, i realised rss is very similar and ofcourse, it's automated. However, i still belive my idea has a human touch involved which would help visitors in choosing blogs. Not just a title, snippet & a link, but a review by forum members of each blog post (yes, very similar to blog comments!). Can this work?
You need to write unique content, that's interesting, and people will subscribe, but most of my RSS traffic comes from media websites who want to provide travel content to their readers - what the point in paying someone to write travel content when they have bloggers doing it for free. The bloggers are happy because their blog is getting noticed, and so is their name. If you use vBulletin forum software, then you can add your Blog RSS feed onto the forum. Have a check of my blog for bloggers, and you'll see a post on this subject. Darren
