Yes, reinclusion request does work, but you need to make sure it is clean and doesn't violate any quality guidelines at the time of submitting it.
I had to help one of my clients once with SEO for a newly purchased domain. It turned out that the domain had been banned previously. I submitted reconsideration request via google webmaster tools explaining the situation and the site was reindexed a week later (however, I suspect the timeframe may vary a lot)

Did a request about one year ago and no asnswer so far, my rankings are still compromised. Heck, i bet it's just another "dead" form, just like adsense cheaters report: you fill the data and they keep cashing in.

    Not cool.

A reconsideration request will work if you had a penalty due to a violation of the guidelines that you have now fixed and you confess honestly in your request.

A reconsideration request will not improve the rankings of a poorly ranking site.

I recall reading a comment from a google employee that most reconsideration requests were from webmasters who's sites just rank poorly, so they not going to change anything.

    I think it rarely works...

just clean up your site and wait...

work on other sites as you wait...

many of my sites have been removed from the Google index in the past...

IMO, sites are reincluded automatically (if clean) after 1 or 2 years....

The replies posted here inspired me to submit a re-inclusion request for one of my sites.

Yes. I think once. :) You should make sure next time that your site does not violate any of the G policy!

In most cases it do works, One of my friend got SERP penalty, he requested for re-consideration and his site got back.

Now its happened with one of my sites and i had requested re-consideration, i hope things will go positive for me.

Yes, it works. You better clean up your site, stick to Google guidelines, confess honestly what you think was the problem that caused your site to get banned, apologize and wait for few days.

Like mentioned before, yes it works if you fix the reason why your site is banned.

It would work in some cases. Depends on the reason of the ban.
