does putting title tags on links and images help in SEO? I am not talking about the title on top. i am talking about the title tags the ones that act as alt tags but for firefox Thanks.
alt="..." tag will give you some weight seo wise, its not as good as anchor text, if anything it probably helps more with google image searches.
As said, you should use alt and title attributes for reasons that have nothing to do with seo. Alternate text is a required attribute for images, and in browsers other than IE, the title is what gets shown in a little yellow box when you hover the mouse over an image or link. If seo is about nothing but links ( and really it's not, but let's pretend ) people are linking to my pages from dozens of forums I've never heard of before. My design isn't particularly attractive ... it's kind of ugly to be honest ... but putting together a nice overall site makes people more likely to link to you. On those grounds alone, you should use them, and could say they'll help indirectly with seo.
I can contest that alt tags help indexing in google images with my funny pictures website. I tested the theory back in early 2006. I used the alt tag to name 5 different images on my site. Within 6 weeks they appeared in google image search via that alt phrase. They were in like 1,000+ positions, but never the less they were there. And NONE of my 1,000+ pictures appeared in there.
