Does private conversations get deleted?

    Hi.

Is there a time- or size limit for private conversations, so they are deleted after a certain criterium? I have some important private conversations in my private messages box and I don't want to loose them.

Yes, they are auto-purged after 6 months.

The old platform (vBulletin) supported downloading PMs, this feature was very useful IMO. It is not difficult to implement such thing here, or is it?

Or is there any feature through which we can lock the conversation so that they aren't auto purged after 6 months? Would be very useful it there is...

Okay. There must be a good reason behind it. :)

Anyways, there could be something like Private Messages along with content are emailed to registered email account as it happened before. In that way, all the messages are saved in our email account. Now, only a notification is sent, but not complete message. Is there a way get the notifications the older way. that is with complete message content?

Because there have been more than 24 million private messages (more than there there have been posts)... Just don't want have to store all the old messages that no one uses/reads forever.

I knew there must be a good reason and it certainly is. :) Storing that many messages would not only take tons of space, but also make forum slower. DP community is continuously growing and I believe that changes are made for users' benefits only...Overall, new DP is better that older one...

Anyways, is there are way to implement the thing I mentioned above? That notification to email...

It's text storage.. Surely with the revenue this place makes you guys can afford a decent server?

I came here after a while of inactivity to look for a guy I'd used previously to do some work, to find ALL my PMs have been deleted? I don't expect that from any forum or website - it's ridiculous.

    What revenue is that exactly?

But yes... we do have decent servers (see: https://forums.digitalpoint.com/threads/new-server-hardware-for-the-geeks.2654797/)

But that doesn't mean we are going to be an archive for people until the end of time. The resources to archive old messages are better allocated for other things.

That being said, additional resources *are* allocated for conversation storage for premium members (although not sure how far you are trying to go back... storage for premium members is still only 12 months).

    What revenue :)

Anyway, I'm just giving some customer feedback - I'd place a higher priority on storing PMs than other things. Granted plenty of them will be spam, but that's another issue. The ones I wanted to look over were pretty legitimate and useful.

Not sure where you think all this revenue is coming from... But I guess if you take all the money you have paid us and multiply that by 771,098 users, then divide that by 11 years the forum has been online, that would be pretty close our annual income from the forum. Not sure why you assume we make money hand over fist (do you think somehow everyone *else* is sending us money, just not you? lol)

Define "other things". What exactly are we storing currently that you feel conversations should be a higher priority than?
