Hi, I want to ask that does PR makes any difference to the rankings any more? I had read it a few days back somewhere that PR doesn't carry any ranking weight at all. I am not sure about the authenticity of this but I would love to know more HaXan
I have a web site that has been ranked among top 30 in Google on popular key phrase only because of good content. The web site still has 0 PR. But I'm almost sure you can not be ranked among Top 10 in Google if you don't ha at least PR 5.
At times it does and at times it does not. It's about the quality and relevancy of the backlink that you are getting, plus the quality of your own page. I have seen sites with no backlink at all yet they do have PR3 at minimum. At the same time I have seen websites with little or no PR at all, yet they come up at number 1 position on google's serps. There are lots of other things to do than going out on the PageRank safari. My advice to you would be: Exchange links for traffic and not for PR, don't fall for sites like gotlinks.com as it hurts you badly in the long run. My site was being indexed before I fell for gotlinks and I had 32k+ pages indexed at google. As soon as google updated it's index; almost everything was gone other than the main page.
Even I have seen websites with PR3 on the first page but I am not sure about the current scenario. You mentioned about exchanging links for traffic and not for PR. Please tell me, Is it beneficial to submit the site to 100's of free directories? There are many people in the forums offering the same service. Should we go for it?
see its a great debate for PR ... sometimes it does carry some weight to rank you high and sometimes it doesnt matter but yeah it does matter atleast something and hence big webmasters are buying High PR links ... thats what i think
I recently had a new site, only registered a few weeks, zero pagerank, in top 10 for popular keywords. Just from SEO. But I would still like the PR to go with it
It depends on the traffic that page is already getting. Think about a page getting 100 uniques a day, how much visitors will it send you in return? In others words, do you personally visit directories to find something that you want? It is not an easy journey for webmasters to get quality links from highly relevant pages but it's definitely not impossible. You can offer/propose a link from one of your buy razors page to a webmaster with a page on shaving gel. At the end of the day, both of you will gain visitors since it's likely for a visitor from your page to visit your partner's page, vice versa. I'm not negating the fact that many *quality* directories bring visitors and are benefical to a website's success. You will have to see what works for you and what does not, but going only for the sake of PageRank and nothing but PageRank is not the wisest of things to do. Cheers!
It depends on what key-phrase you are looking for. For non competetive key phrase your site come in top 10 evven you have PR0 Till your site in sandbox, your site could not be viewed in SERP on popular key phrase thanks
i have 2 sites just launched pr is 0 but 1 is in top 40 in google and 2nd is in top 11 in google for top keyword.1of the site is http://www.vidaguerratopless.com and it is ranked in top 40 for vida guerra. Relevence of pr does come in adsense as pr site has more click $ ratio
Let's not forget that the PR you see (little green fuel gauge) is a glimpse into the past. The only PR that counts is the internal PR at Google, and we do not know what this value is. The only pages that do not have PR are pages that have not been indexed. The link and anchor text has far greater ranking value than the PR that same link confers. Dave
I think PR has nothing to do with your position, anyways. I have 1 site that is #1 for 1 keyword, and in the top 10 for a handful of other keywords. My site is a PR0, no google backlinks and about 3 months old. Just depends on competition for keywords really.
