i just moved from a PR 0 to a PR 4! Does this mean i am out of the sandbox or does google still dampen your site even if it has a pr

I believe PR0 itself means you're out of the sandbox, it's when you don't have any PR period that you're in the sandbox.

PR has nothing to do with the sandbox.

What's the difference between no PR and PR0 ?

I also went from PR0 to PR2 and didn't get out of the sandbox until 3 months later :) Be patient.

I am sure they have nothing to do with eachother....though if you are a pr 8 i'm sure you're not in the sand box

I wonder if pr does matter a little, I have one page that is a pr4 and I do not show up at all, I have a pr6 pages that while not ranked very high for serps they do show up. I'm top5 for most serps on yahoo and msn. For google top 20-60.

I agree with smindsrt. No pr means google has not crawl your site yet, or there is other possibilities. Even your site is in sandbox, your website still can show pr. pr simply implies the website backlinks.

Well, considering toolbar PR is updated so infrequently, no PR generally means your site is new (or you're really bad at getting back links, I guess).

They don't seem to be related in my case. I was PR4 and could not be found under any keyword in Google, nada. Then one day (6 months after launch) it was everywhere...

My site homepage PR is now showing PR6 after this latest update. However:

-The SERPs still show no title or description.
-My inner pages are still PR0 and almost never appear in the SERPs.
-The cache for any of the indexed pages is dated 11 January 2005.

So, despite a seemingly high PR, I would say I am still in the sandbox and am looking forward to even better rankings as soon as I get out....

My conclusion: PR will not necessarily get you out of the sandbox.

I have pr 4 site too... with more than 20K pages index but still don't position in my main keywords. So I believe PR is not a ticket to get out from sandbox, as others said it take time before you get out there.

What is the cut-off for what Google would consider competitive? My site was picked up in dec. of last year, do you get out of the sandbox all at once? or is it a gradual release?
