Yes Sure you can do the keyword analysis of your website and choose the best keywords for it, and start promoting the website so it can give you the fruit later when you will increase the size of the website.

    That should help you, yes.

Put some small articles there. that should help.

Google takes a while to rank sites, that's why 'aged' domains are more valuable than new ones. I'd set up a small website on your domain, stick a few relevant pages up with keywords optimisation ans then just leave the site to mature.

It is fine to start with 2 pages, but keep adding content (more pages) over time.

It both does and doesn't matter.

    - It does not matter if your domain has a true strong backlinks from famous site, relevance is a plus. Example - If your site has been mentioned with dofollow backlinks from authorized website CNN, Wall Street Journals, Whitehouse.gov, Harvard.edu, Digg.com, Matt Cutts Blog, etc. then your site would be ranked for almost every competitive keywords regardless to the amount of contents your site has.

    - It does matter for most of common websites like ours. The more quality content you have, the more chance to ranked for some long tail keywords.

Bottom Line - It does matter :)
