I know that a high pagerank is a good indicator of how well you rank in google, but is this definative? Would a PR6 site or a PR7 site most definately have good search engine rankings?
Not necessarily. If they suck at SEO, they could hypothetically only be getting 500 - 1000 uniques a day, depending on the site and its content.
The Page Rank counts the number and the quality of backlinks and is only one of the many factors determining the SERP for a specific keyword query. The anchor text of these backlinks, the content of the site, the meta tags, the relevance of the context (LSI) matter too. Also the PR you see in the toolbar is not the real one that Google uses in its calculations, but rather the outdated one that was established at the last wide update (happens every 3 months or so). I hope this helps. Regards, George
I have a site with PR2 which ranked the 3th position in for a rather competitive keyword.. so i don't think PR matters THAT much
PR is a tiny factor in a list of over 200 factors, And that's real PR. Toolbar PR is utterly worthless. Do a search, Any search, You will see that the SERPS are not ordered by PR in any way what so ever.
like others said, PR is rather a smaller factor now. But generally speaking, high PR sites get ranked higher in SERPs. I don't simply mean PR6 or PR7 sites always rank high, but then I don't know any PR8 or PR9 sites that can not rank high either
PR is the result of back linking - better links -> better serp -> higher PR. But as said before - it's not the only factor of position in results.
Alright - so a link from a PR7,8, or 9 website doesn't have to put you on the first page of google, right?
It can give you somewhat of a glimpse as to your backlink quality but no it doesent really mean anything when your considering search results.
I had managed a pr 6 website that was not even in the top 50 for the desired keywords ..so i would say no .but it heps you get quicker to the top if your site is well optimized.
Not necessarily and you need to choose keywords that is competitive and promoting of site using your keywords. PageRank is passed through links. Each page only has so much PageRank which it can pass to other web documents. A dampening factor (approximately 85%) is set to allow the current pages PageRank to propagate through the rest of the web, while preventing all we pages from being ranked at a 10 or a 0.
Good PR does not mean better ranking, but it does help your site rank better in some cases. For example, many directories rank their links by a site's PR. So if you have a PR5+ site, you have a good chance on being listed on the first page of results instead of the 24th, resulting in stronger backlinks to your site
no, but good definitely chance in search engine. getting on the top of the search engine is not only having a good pr, there is other factors to see of an search engine just to be able on the top.
