Does Pagerank increase only with backlinks??

Hey guys I wanna know how the pagerank increases. Yes everybody says it you have to have lots of backlinks to have a higher PR but i want to know if content affects the PR or not. for example I have a web site and the content is really original all the articles are written by me they are not copy-paste. Does this increase PR or it has no affect on Pagerank.

    Thanks in advance...

No, content has nothing to do with PR.
Only inbound links are taken into account for PR calculation.

I have heard it said that if the links are unrelated to your content they may not help your page rank. Page rank is a measurement of backlinks so there content can not have a positive effect other than the fact quality content tends to get linked to.

i think your main goal is to rank well in search engines, to do that the content is very important. Page rank doesn't reflect how you rank in search engine, it can only give you an idea for an website. If you want only to have a high PR to sell links or something like that, don't matter the content or the anchor URL, or if the linking website is related to you.

PR increases only with links and with AGE (age of site is important in SEO and for PR olso)

Quit being lazy. You can easily test this.

    Register two domains.

On one, put low or no content.

On domain two, put "great content".

Link to both from exactly the same network of websites.

Wait until PR updates. Observe which one has more PR. It would be more effective than asking in a forum. All that can happen is that people will give you opinions.

Inbound links. but sometimes its disappointing as some rubbish sites get better positions because of PR alone..

Man, you are you for real? Is it easier to make what you said than ask people who know the answer? Come on, what are forums for if not for help!!?

Setting up the domains and websites, providing great content and waiting 6 months for pr update is far worse than asking someone who just don this for an experiment. You should search on blogs, reports should be there for a long time.

I thought we are past the times when more than 50% of forum questions are about PR update.

content doesn't have any relation with PR, only links does..
remember every page have different PR value, usually homepage have biggest PR because every page is linking to homepage

and this thread is 1200 days old
