Does page updates count?

I keep reading that Google loves new content and that you should continue adding new content to your site.

Does a page update count? Like rewriting it? Or adding some more information to the page?

Or does it need to be a brand new page?

    Hello
Adding new content is fine. Tweaking current content is also a good tactic. If you run a blog, and having hundreds of posts, then you r not going to update them all. make sense?

    Thanks for your reply

It's good to know tweaking counts.

I have a couple of very niche sites with information concentrated into a few pages...not the type of site to just add page after page. Knowing that if I rewrite a page every now and then will help.

    Thanks again

changing the already information is also as good as new pages with new content. change as many as you can change then even if you have a huge blog, like even change some of your main pages. that's also works

I'm skeptical about "changing" the content on a given page that is attracting good traffic unless it's adding a new page and you have a different page with titles and descriptions to that page you create, then the pagination shifts and archived content shifts. I heard that a hierarchy / tree branch method works the best.

You make an excellent point about changing content on a page attracting good traffic. And I agree with you

Problem is my traffic has dropped off and I needed to 'do' something

Have you tried submitting your site or articles to different directories with the same niche? How about social bookmarking and attracting revisits? If it's a blog, start replying to blog comments and build yourself a network. Try to find blogs without the nofollow tags...

    Thanks for all the advice...

have gone the articles route - guess I need to drum up a new one

submitted to loads of niche directories for backlinks

regarding revisits...there would be no reason to revisit once you read the info on the site ... unless you needed to re-read .... that's probably part of my problem

as for social networking...i am trying to find places I can participate ... believe it or not, I've had good results at Yahoo Answers ... I have found that if a page on my site specifically answers the question, there is not problem posting the link to the page.
