Does Page Rank affect the Search result?

Ok, i think my site has just been penalized by google and my PR dropped from 3 to 0 (auch!) because i'm selling link at TLA (i think :p). And here is the question, is PR affect the search result? So far my traffic from google is still pretty good but i'm still afraid in the future result. So, anybody has answer for this :)? I just received my payment from TLA today and want to remove it. But if Page Rank has no effect, i plan to still keep TLA because there's another link buyer this month :D

Many people do say that pagerank is a factor of your search ranking.

But its just that... one factor in, perhaps, over 200 looked at when deciding the ranking of your site.

It does also depend on what type of penalty you have been 'slapped' with! - as some penalties will of course affect your rankings.

Although many DP posters say "no", Google says "yes" — "Pages that we believe are important pages receive a higher PageRank and are more likely to appear at the top of the search results." (http://www.google.com/corporate/tech.html)

I think the disparity between the two statements is to do with relevancy, and the fact that pagerank is only one of hundred of factors that make up a websites rankings, do you agree, or do you see another reason?

if have high PR, you'll have higher google crawl rate, but no affect to the search result. My site PR = 0 but some keywords is higher than site PR = 3, PR = 4...

I'm looking forward to the day when the ever-increasing sophistication of search engines allows them to really "understand" the content of a website and to make the relevance and excellence of that content the main ranking factor.

Hopefully by then PR chasing will have become a historical footnote.

Yes it affects to a certain extent..

You can see only sites which have high Page Rank at the top for competitive keywords..

Pages with higher pageranks are indexed at a faster rate . In one of my PR0 blog , i need to submit to 2-3 social and bookmarking sites to be around in the 1st page . Also in my PR4 blog , i can see immediate first page results for all posts ,with out any submission works .

    Hi.
According to me PageRank= Quantity+Quality. If your page rank has gone then it means that u got some really bad neighbor site as your backlink. It is like chain, your backlink site is a bad or spammy one and that site is also having some spammy or satelite sites backlinks. So at the end the overall bad impression is passed to you and unfortunately you caught by google. And forget about pagerank for ranking. Only by good on page optimization and internal linking structure with Unique content can earn you visitors so easily. Page rank is a small result you earn by your continuous effort provided for off page optimization.
Hope it would be little clear to you now.
    Thank you.
