Good day ya'll, A good friend of mine and myself are thinking about starting a local directory where local business can post their ad and essentially create a web presence. I know there are a lot of directory owners on this forum so my question to you is... ... are directories profitable? If so, what would be a good monthly income one could expect from a single directory? ... how much time is needed to manage it? How much capital is needed to make it a worthwhile cause? I would love to hear everything you can tell me about directories... the good and the bad.
Directories in general = who the hell uses them anymore? The local directory sounds like a better idea, but do you really want to compete with CitySearch and Merchant Circle? Unless you can do something drastically different and have the capital to back it up and hire a programmer, I really think that other ventures would be better to consider.
Even most of peoples do not using web directory to search anything anymore but you can still make money from them with webmasters instead. You should go with a niche directory instead of general directory. It would be much easier to do marketing and sell listing.
The majority of people on the web are actually more geared towards easier ads and free applications to promote their site or business. Thats why Twitter and Facebook are so successful. I think that directories are going to go down hill real fast if they are not already at the bottom of the chain.
