Does online marketing work .. ?

As i have just learnt about marketing online but whenever i tell anyone that i am doing a online marketing they just have one answer and that it it doesn't work anymore ..
they tell me that go and get a job .
write your resume nicely and they recommended me to this website and they say that doing marketing online is as same as playing lottery online as there a very few chances of getting success ..
they also say that there are more chances of winning a lottery then to do online marketing ..
i have also found that this website was very much useful for the people to win lotteries online ..
so plz can anyone tell me that whether online marketing works or not or i should quit it now .. ?

You need to do a lot of study and research, trial and error. You need to try and fail, make a few mistakes.

I find a personal connection with this question of yours because I firstly started into online marketing at the age of 16 and after making $150 and spending almost $400 on "guru techniques", extraordinary secrets and other crap like that I have decided that online marketing won't work for me anymore.

Then, a few months ago, I wanted to give it a try again just because I thought it changed or at least my way of seeing things and taking action changed. And yes the problem was my whole mind set. Let's say you need a domain and you don't have a dime to spend on it. You go, offer a service (maybe write a couple of articles) and then you have the money for it. This is why I say this could be an amazing asset for you.
