Does One less character mean trouble?

    Hi guys,
    Long time I've been on this forum! So nice to see so much has changed over here :)

    What has remained the same, however, is my noobishness :p
    So here I am with yet another basic query.

    I wanted to register a domain name (say ABCD.com). I shortlisted this domain (ABCD.com) after searching around for a long time. Just when everything seemed perfect and I was about to register, out of plain curiosity, I checked the domain for an extra character..and voila! there was already a domain that was registered with that extra character (say ABCDE.com).

    Now if I go on and register the new domain (ABCD.com), will I be in any kind of trouble - legally or otherwise?

    {not that the domain I intend to register will turn out to be a gold mine or anything..just want to make sure I've got the basics covered :eek: }

    I wouldn't think there would be any legal ramifications... not unless the domain name you choose is just a misspelling of the other website name anyway. Even in that case it would only be a problem if THEY decide it is a problem and then decide to do something about it. I'm no expert, I'm just applying some logic and common sense to the question. That's just my two cents. I'll be interested to see what others think.

    Thank you for your response.
    The domain I'm looking at isn't any misspelling of the other site. It basically is a thing with the PLURAL of English word.

    To give a more clear example: WORDS.com is already registered and I was looking at WORD.com.

    To clarify my earlier response: I was thinking of copyrighted names specifically when I wrote the response. With your clarification, I still think what I said before applies "it would only be a problem if THEY decide it is a problem and then decide to do something about it". I have no idea what they could do about it even if they wanted to though. Again, I'm no expert and this is just my opinion.
