I have a site with the extension .net, does it really matter, or should I have got a worse name with the extension .com? Thanks.

No... .net and .com have equal chances of ranking... Either is absolutely fine.

"People" might think .com is better... but the search engines could care less.

Not at all. Many higher ranking websites have .net extension ( problogger.net being best example). I also have a.net domain name for my blogand it does not affect Google Rankings at all!

What about a boost? Do .edu or .gov sites get any type of boot?

The only difference is the age- .com is the oldest domain,so more trust from SE's.I saw .me domain which is less then a year old to overrank 13 years old ,well optimised .com domain.

Absolutely not. Domain name extension will not affect your ranking. The keyword you use for your domain is what matter most.

no doesnt matter. But if you use country tlds than it might affect your search ranking. But on the other end, I have a good .cc domain that does very well.

Yes, I believe they would give your site a boost for as long as you choose those that are do follow.. I've tried them already.. Try this tool to look for .edu sites: "seopositions.net/edu-blog-finder.html".. I found it when I was browsing the net..

Google doesn't favor any specific extension. Getting a good ranking is all about building quality links.

It doesn’t matter if it’s a .com, .net, .biz, or any other.

BUT, the truth is, when people return to your site their first guess will always be .com.

I've seen this happen a few times. Customer finds your site via search, only to automatically assume the site url ends in a .com.
BUT, if you brand the site correctly, maybe adding the .net to the logo, you can impress upon them the url.

hey man, I don't think google or other search engines treat .net or .com or any other extensions with a different eye..... I think all are filtered with a the same eye (Same view) of google....
