I have a complicated structure to my site (everything is in subdomains).. I am wondering if you could take a look at it and tell me what parts of it are not optimized well for google. My categories have excerpts however my front page has full articles on it. I also have a videos and music sections which post embedded youtube videos with no writing or other content. Is that bad? Google keeps putting a date in front of my site's description and I wish I could fix that. The Url is this: http://www.BibleIsland.com Thanks and God bless
Some points. 1. Each post title is h1, that gives multiple 'top headings' within your page. I will recommend you change them to h2. 2. Continue Reading links should probably be modified so that 'Continue Reading' is not part of anchor text. For example: Continue Reading »I’m starving – Who is really starving? 3. You have some 'dead pages' indexed by google - bibleisland.com/testpage/ Code (markup): Get rid of them. What are your targeted keywords? Christian Media?
Thanks for that everyone! And thanks for those tips jitndraag. Yeah I'm just looking to use good, clean, white hat ways to optimaze it so that the articles and stuff reach their potential of exposure. I dont have specific keywords which is pretty bad. Christian Media should definitely be it. The website has gone through so many different incantations, however the idea of just posting fresh content or links to good Christian content works for me so I'll keep the site as it is now. Unfortunately I don't think "Christian Media" is searched much at all. I'll have to fix up those title tags, I put a Wordpress SEO plugin by Yoast which I've been using to name some of the posts. Amazingly, I still can't get to Google #1 for "Bible Island" lol, but the website that is there has been there for a looong time I think, and it's a real life Bible Camp that just shares my site's name lol, so it deserves it. Does anyone have any idea how to stop Google from indexing my site with the date as the first thing it shows in the description? The description that comes up when I google "Bible Island" is so old lol. It really makes it look bloggish rather then website-like lol.. I am using wordpress but I've tried to use it as a bit of a CMS rather then a blog. Anyway thanks for all your comments, I appreciate it, God bless
