Does my site have enough traffic to bring in additional income

    Hello,

I have a situation that I hope to get some advice about. If this is not the correct forum to use, I would appreciate someone pointing out which one would be more appropriate.

    Here is my situation.

I own a site that consists of multiple directories of links to other sites that provide content within a specific keyword topic. Since a Google search for that particular keyword usually shows one of my directories on Page One and often in positions 1-3, I'd rather not be more specific at this time. So far this year, 396,846 unique visitors have generated 1,589,993 pageviews so there's obviously some interest in what I provide.

    Here's my question.

Does my site have enough traffic to earn income in addition to what Adsense brings in? I've tried offering products through CJ and LinkShare over the years - including those associated with the site's topic - but have had little success.

I would certainly appeciate getting serious opinions about my situation and how best to proceed?

    Thank you very much.

OMG! So you're getting around 100,000 unique visitors a month aren't you? With such a high traffic you can definitely go beyond Adsense to make money with your site. In my opinion the way to go could be CPA offers related to your niche (Clickbank), but you could also sell some advertising space on your site! Find large companies that dominate your niche and contact them, with 350-400 thousand page views a month you'll have their attention!

Hi GT, the only reason I can think you're not making many sales is you're probably promoting more than one product on the same site?
If so, I'd decide on what you think is the best product and just advertize that. Too many products can be confusing and visitors tend to leave without being able to make their minds up!

    Good luck, Ray

In my opinion stick to adsense and add some CPM program that pays good :) You can get ones that pay 4$/1k views and that is 400$/month additionaly if your traffic is EU/US

It sounds like this is a link site? You might try selling relevant ads on each category page with that kind of traffic. CPA would also be a good option IMO. I don't think trying to sell products on a link site is necessarily a good idea.

Can you give us a clue about your earnings? That would be really interesting because 36 million views per month is huge...

If the site is a link site, then the demographics of your users may hold the key to your success. If you users are largely webmasters, then you should probably offer goods and services they would be interested in. Also, sometimes web pages are just not set up to sell items. In that case you might look into some exit pages with appropriate CPA offers.

Have to see your site first in order to know what is going on.

Does your site allow user to register? If yes you can do some lead generation effort. Monetize your registration path is a good idea.

Also Adsense usually works well with link directory website. You should try different size of Adsense ads and on different part of your site and see the difference.

    Good luck!

Thank you all very much. Unfortunately the demographics of my visitors is broad so I would really need to find a product that has broad appeal as well. I've experimented with several giving each more than 100,000 impressions without generating more than a handful of clicks and zero purchases. I'll continue to experiment though. The idea of finding a major manufacturer of products within my niche is intriguing. Actually, I made several attempts to do just that by e-mailing the addresses available on their websites - including the advertising departments. So far, I have not had the first response either positive or negative. I figure they must only work through ad agencies and simply ignore solicitations like mine.

In any event, thanks again to everyone who has responded. It's encouraging and helpful reading your opinions and observations. I've always felt there must be some value in the amount of traffic I get. Unfortunately, my experience in attracting advertisers has not been too good which is why I have depended upon Adsense as my primary income source.
