Does multiple domains on the one host affect ranking?

    Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knew if having multiple domains for multiple websites on the one hosting account (shared) will affect seo

i.e. I have a bluehost account with 1 primary domain, but 10 addons

(this is 5 totally different websites, with one website with 5 domain variations pointing to it)

Should you only have 1 website per account?

Does a primary domain outrank addons?

Or is it all the same?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Yes.. to some extent it really effect the ranking of the website. If one of your five domains or say ten domains caught in any spam and search engine like Google penalized that website then the negative impact of that website would surely can be seen on the other websites as well. Please be clear that most search engine identify IP address and not urls while giving rank .

    Thanks

If you are linking your own domains together, it probably matters more who's identified as the domain owner than the IP address of the host. So if you have more than about 10 of your domains linking in to one other then Google might take notice.

I've never been particularly convinced that having separately owned domains on the same IP is bad for SEO. Lots of web design companies also legitimately provide hosting for their clients and if hosting on the same IP address was bad they'd be penalised for no valid reason, simply for taking credit for their design work by linking back from client sites.

i think as long as you are not linking all of the sites on that same ip to each other you should not have much to worry about.

I'm on shared hosting. I was wondering similar to OP, why do blog post sellers include in their spiel that the blogs are on ### different IPs ??
