Does much traffic come from article marketing (forget about SEO affect)

I am wondering whether someone with experience having someone perform article marketing knows whether or not you can generate a huge amount of traffic by spamming the shit out of articles all over the place (high quality articles of course, where appropriate). If I do this, here are my questions

    1) From the links ALONE, not counting SEO at all, will I generate a lot of traffic if I had say 100,000 articles submitted?

    2) If I do this not FOR ANY SEO benefit could google still possibly ban me or penalize me for SEO in general because of the backlinks?

You have to do your keyword research first.

You want to rank article based on a keyword phrase that are heavily search and ones you can compete in the top 10 results in Google.

Search for "how to get pregnant" and someone who wrote an articlebase article already got like 300K+ views.

He/she just submitted a few articles.

The purpose of submitting tons of articles is to see which one stick in the SERP...and once you find ones that stick, you then promote that article, build backlinks, etc.

This has nothing to do with my question. I am wondering whether or not posting 100,000 articles will generate me traffic from the articles themselves, and I don't care about search engines in this question at all.

Yes. It will generate traffic. Depending on the articles, where they are, and what sites you post them on. If you can get 100,000 articles on that many sites, just by numbers alone, you should see a major increase in traffic, if not for a long period of time, within the first couple of weeks that they go live.

Well "search engine position" is definitely relevant to your question - the articles wont get much (if any) traffic, which means little or no traffic to your site unless they are ranked well in search engines (which often requires keyword research, linking, etc).

So it depends on how high your articles rank. But yeah, you'll definitely see at least some traffic with 100,000 articles.

Most of the traffic comes from the search engines, the very little traffic that's generated to your articles comes from the community, members browsing the article directory (probably webmasters looking for content).

You're supposed to rank the articles for your targeted keywords otherwise each and every article will slowly dry off.

    ezinearticles.com 63.7%

    members.ezinearticles.com 35.0%

    i.ezinearticles.com 0.6%

    blog.ezinearticles.com 0.5%

    shop.ezinearticles.com 0.1%

Here's how the traffic is divided, apparently 35% of EZA's traffic is generated by it's members/moderators.
