Hello, I'm linking to some videos on youtube. And because i've got some traffic, my site ranks in the top 5 on those video pages. (the top links to the pages that play the video the more often). And I indeed see youtube links among my external links in google sitemap. And because youtube has been flavoured to local tastes, it increases further the number of links (.com, .br, .be, and so on..) I was surprised because was thinking there were no backlinks to expect from youtube. Do you think that to be in the top 5 of a video does really give backlinks that will be taken account by google? Do you confirm what google webmaster shows in external link?
So you're getting backlinks to your regular site, from your Youtube video pages? Where in the process do you put links to your regular site?
yes it is, i had got same kinda results... but i thought its was accidentally but now am doing that though it takes too much time to get upload the videos... and sometime there reporter usually remove the my videos... lol
If you link to a you-tube video - it displays a certain proportion of links on the actual page (which is what I think the original poster is referring to) However - if you look at the source code they are tagged with a no-follow tag - so my gut reaction is that they would be given very little weight. Particularly because Matt Cutts said recently that the no-follow tag effectively knocks links off the "link graph" as far as google is concerned. That said: 1. It is interesting that they appear on your external links list 2. A number of people on the forum have said there are exceptions with links and you-tube. So would love to hear anyone else's opinion. Dylan
Nop, nop I don't post anything on youtube. Actually I'm linking to video posted by other people. And because of the traffic on my site, a video may be played quite often. As a result a link to my website appears on youtube (on the original page of the video i'm linking to). At the beginning i did not care of those links because i knew about the nofollow tag like mentionned by Dylan. And I also read Matt Cutts' blog. But i was checking my external link in google sitemap webmaster and I saw that many external link come from youtube. Is there someone who could shed some light on this matter? It would seem quite an easy way to get backlinks if it does work.
Hey, I am doing the same on my site (www.lyricing.com) it is getting in the top 5 of links on some of the videos and therefore am receiving some small traffic from it. It is working!
Yes if you link a video and someone views the links on the video - you will get some traffic - there is no link juice though
Being in the top 5 brings some small traffic indeed. But do you think that those links in youtube are really taken into account by google algo when ranking websites for a search ? I mean, are those links real backlinks (as they are listed in the external links) despite the nofollow tag?
If you're using Google sitemap could you check if youtube links are also listed in your external links?
I didn't know that if you show videos on your site that get actively looked at, you will then gain a link on youtube within the video page. Something newly learn't everyday.
in fact, i also wonder that too. google is showing backlink for my sites from youtube videos but when i visit that page i dont see any backlink to my sites
So you mean that you are pointing a link to youtube. First, yeah you got some traffic because of the video and maybe the video is quiet interesting. But normally you don't have baclinks from it. The situation is you are the one pointing to youtube and not the youtube pointing to you and that's the reason that you have no backlink from it. But I don't understand why google showing a backlink from youtube.
If you embed a youtube video in your site and if enough people play the video from your website then you may be listed in the top 5. In the youtube page of the video, look under the video, there is a link or two and one of the (inline)link should show: I think there is a strategy to build there as you confirm you also have backlinks in you webmaster sitemap console: Embed a youtube video on a page for a while and let visitors play it in order to get links. Then once in the top 5, embed an other video (would be better if the videos embed are dealing with the same topic as your website). Thank you for your confirmation trichnosis.
Oh I haven't know it before thanks, If I give comment in youtube video I'll get backlink or not ? Thanks
I did not put comments yet in youtube. I even wonder if they allow it ??? Let's try. Does anyone get backlinks from youtube by inserting comments?
Embedding may provide with more than one backlink. I was checking on google search with the keywords: site:youtube.com mywebsite.com/ And I was surprised to see that I've got some links on pages of video Inever embedded. ?? It's because the youtube player propose to play other video directly from my site (with the banderole).
I thought they measured the amount of visitors you sent them ? not the amount of times videos are watched (on your site). Wouldn't it be harder to measure the times watched on different sites, compared to measuring the amount of traffic sent from a site. I use this same method but not with youtube, with Meta Cafe as they actually show your text/link on the video page.
Youtube counts the number of times a video is played from external website (through embedding). And it does not really require more effortstotrackthis activity: their servers'logs already have the information anyway. With metacafe do you have backlinks appearing in google webmasterin your external links ?
