Does Linking to Authority Websites Help PR?

Say I have a PR0 site and I link to Adobe. Is it an outbound link that will hurt my PR? Help it? Not do anything?

How about authority sites for any given subject? Will it hurt my sites PR?

Well, if it's dofollow, then it can dilute your linking.... obviously, a site with zero outbound links looks like spam, so it's okay to link to some pages, but if you're linking to google or adobe, or huge site, they don't need the link juice from your site.... so save it for other sites and passing onto your internal pages through internal linking strategies.

Linking to authority sites won't increase your PR but will help Google to determine your niche (site relevance).

It won't help you at all, and it generally won't hurt you (unless you're a link farm)

How it affects PR will depend on the page making the link, e.g. if the link is on your homepage it won't lower the PR of the homepage itself but will end up diluting the PR the homepage can pass to other pages in your site.

There is a theory though that linking to authority pages in your particular niche makes Google think you are more of an information resource and therefore more worthy of a better ranking in your own right.

I always link to good sites when I'm writing about anything particular. Authority sites normally have good information which will add value to my readers. I'm sure SE's will give it importance if they already are not.

    Increases my sites relevancy.
    Gives more value to visitors.

I doubt if it directly helps in PR, but should surely help in the ranking of your site.

I used to avoid linking to authority sites, now I do it and it hasn't seemed to hurt my PR at all.

Linking to authority sites will neither improve nor hurt your PR, you all need to understand that PR is only based on incoming links to your site and their "PR".

You can do "whatever" you like on your site, it won't influence your PR, the only way to increase your PR is to get back links.

It doesn't matter, they don't get any juice and since you have no juice you wont lose any.

It will help to link to great sites in your niche, not sites like adobe or google. They are tooo great. Just link to above average good sites. Links to relevant good resources from good content in your site always is good for you. So, do it more often. Wish you success.
