I have heard someone saying that I will avoid to exchange link with those site using the "LINK" word on their page filename, because most SE bot don't crewl this pages.

    Is it true?

It was for a short period of time..... but I'm just not sure about it anymore....

don't waste too much of your time exchanging links....

Build links that point to your website from related sites....
If you get a link back, then great - but don't focus on the "exchange" focus on the quaity links you can get pointing towards you, anyway you can get them....

    I gotta agree with Catfish...

I've been told SE's don't necessarily like pages that are named "links.php" (or .html, etc). So, just to be safe, name them something else like "resources.php" or "friends.html". As for link exchanging, I wouldn't worry too much about if your link is placed on a "link.php" page. Any link is a good link. :D

I'd have to disagree slightly with that. One of our links pages we created last year ended up ranking for some small phrases.. so we retired it and used it for agressive adsense revenue generating. Page ranks in top ten for "College degrees" on google and has "/links/" in the filename.

If you want, I can give you the URL for it. So you can see the ranking for yourself. A links page ranking in the top ten for a phrase like "college degrees". It could be presented as an example to those that insist that having "links" in the file name will stop the page from being crawled regularly or that sort of thing.

But then, since many people will object, it's still best to avoid "links" when creating new files. saves you the hassle of explaining.

What I was talking about has more to do with having your link on a page titled "links.html". Basically, the theory is that PR won't pass through the links on that page, which would account for why your links page ranked so well (it wasn't passing on PR to the sites you linked to).

Interesting... I'll have a look into seeing whether any of the links on it are showing our page in their BLs when doing a "link:" search. Would appearing in the BLs of the 'linked to' page be percieved as passing pagerank to that page?

Not necessarily. Google has recently shaken up what appears when you do a link:www.yoursite.com search. They used to only show PR4 and up links to your site, but now it has changed. Anyhow, I believe Google would still show the links, but they don't pass the PR to the linked to pages. This is of course a theory that may or may not be true, but I'd rather be safe and name my links pages something else (just to be fair to my link partners). :)

    No it is not true.

Think what makes 'Links' pages something that users will actually find useful and easy to use.

    links.htm or anotherpage.htm doesn't say anything but

    /widget-parts-resources.htm
    /widget-restoration.htm
    /widget-dealers.htm

    etc. etc. does

This will help the user and you and prospective link partners get a better understanding how to use the pages.

There is nothing worse than a crappy links page with banner ads or just 50 text links and no explanatory text. You should treat the links pages like any other pages and optimize them with good content (as well as the links) and turn them into a valuable resource for site visitors.

Don't hide them away either because if they rank highly in the SERPs you will start getting visitors to you site through them and this means potential customers. Not only that but you will get begging letters from webmasters who would love to have a link on your pages :)

This is without doubt one of the most neglected aspects of SEO.
