does link improve rank in organic layout?

I think the title says it all.I want to know if I have a lot of websites that have links to my website,is my website gonna rank better in google,in the organic part for the specific keywords I have optimised my site for?
Or do the specific links just improve my page rank for the specific website?

well it's quite simple.Google doesn't appreciate if you have 200 domain names and just link them all together,that's not how you value the importance of a link.You need to determine other websites,with high rank,that your website is worthy to have a link.Hope I`m clear enough because I'm a little drunk at this hour

not only the anchor link contain your keywords, the site you put your links need to be relevant to the keywords too. this way will give maximum benefits.
