Hi SEO guys, I have been working as SEO from last couple of months. Well, I have noticed that many search engine optimizer are working a lot for link exchanging. Many guys spend too much time for that. And I wonder why people do like that even there are lots of techniques to get backlinks (like forums, social bookmarking, etc.. ) Well, My question is for senior and experienced Search Engine Optimizers. Does link exchange really help to improve SERP specially in google? I have also noticed when was research on few sites. I noticed that many sites are there which have done lots of link exchange and there are many pages on their resource or link pages. But google is not showing all those links as a back links. Well, I might be wrong but I have noticed that google is not giving much important to link exchanging. Well, what do you think guys? or What are your experiences about link exchange? I will appreciate your responses. Thanks
I personally stopped exchanging links years ago due to lack of results and time better spent on other things.
sites like google don't look highly upon link farms or exchanges. if not, your site can go on google's black list :X
people like link exchanges because they are quick, easy, and generally low-cost. However, they aren't nearly as effective as one-way links. Especially if you are link exchanging with unrelated websites; this could end up doing more damage than good.
link exchange sites are a gift to new websites whcih want instant rankings but in the long run it better to avoid it
Link exchanges help build traffic and help search engines categorize your sites through relevant links. Don't expect your rankings or Google PageRank to necessarily increase.
Don't do direct link exchanges, to the pyramid/triangle/3 way link exchanges. I've been using that technique for a couple of months now and if you do a little keyword research you'd probably end up ranking for some interesting keywords within a couple of weeks. What you need do do is get the links as gradually as possible, I make it a point to get a couple links a day to my sites, between 2-3 links, using various keywords sets (slightly varying keywords) as anchors. Don't forget to also link to the inner pages of the site, from all the SEO i've done, I get more visits from search engines on inner pages than the article although most of by links point to the homepage.
Links will always be helpful, as long as the SE doesn't tag you as a link farm. But reciprocal links are much less worth in SEO than direct links.
Two ways: One way backlinks and Link exchanges. One way backlinks can get you to teh top of SERPs, Google or Yahoo, and it is the only way you can rank high in search results. There is no other proven way, even according to Aaron Wall of SEOBook. Link exchanges are good, but not as effective as one way backlinks. You are completely missing the Nofollow attribute. All forum links, and social networking website links, bookmark links (such as delicous, digg, etc) are nofollow. they give you no juice to your site for sure. They can get you some direct traffic, but not search engine significance. Avoid nofollow links, and try to build dofollow. Even many of the blogs which tout as dofollow are actually nofollow. So, always check the comments of a blog to see if they contain actual dofollow links before you comment at all. Also, check the robots tag of the blog and robots.txt file. They may completely invalidate the links within the page (as in DP here). Always check the page you are commenting in before getting a link from it. It may be a completely useless link you get. My personal opinion is build links with good content. I have done it and I got my PR1 within 2 months and am ranking in number one page for some of the keywords. I am waiting to see a very high PR in the next update as well.
Link exchanges help build traffic and help search engines categorize your sites through relevant links...........
But who will do link exchange with new sites which have no PR or low PR? lol... Well, I can understand that search engine categorize our sites by link exchanges if we are doing it with relevant sites. But how it can help to build traffic? I don't see any logic behind this.
There is a difference from a link exchange and a reciprocal link. Huge link exchanges can get you in trouble with the search engines. Trading reciprocal links with sites related to your will help your SERPs. However, you want your back link profile to have a good balance of one way and reciprocal links.
I heard a really novel way of getting more one-way backlinks to your site was to get a bespoke job done to get some kick-a** Wordpress themes done and distribute them freely. Once users download and install them, the "This theme is provided by" nn the footer of the WordPress theme template link provides a lot of valuable backlinking.
