Does less Ads on a page = more money?

Hi, I currently have a page that has 3 standard Google ads and then 1 Adlink (so 4 adsense ads total). If I were to take away a few of those, so I just had one or two Ads on a page, would I get more money per click from ones I left up?

What is the advantage of having less Adsense Ads? Any?

 

if you have only one ad as opposed to three, G will pick the highest paying ad to serve on your site. drawback - less chance of ads for visitors to click on (they might not noitce it, etc).

 

The only way to see if this will work is to take down a few of your ad units (those that perform the worst). Leave it like that for a couple of days (1-2 weeks should do) and see if your revenue increased or decreased.

It's true for me. After months of experimenting, I was shocked to learn that one of the best things that worked for my archives page was one single 468banner underneath my comic strip. This went against just about every hotspot or regular tips... but that spot alone has done the best performance for me.

 

I alway think it depends on the length of a page. If you have an exceedingly long page, I would reccomend 3 otherwise 2 is the best. Having one might not get noticed enough.

 

My best performing website (mind you it's not very big $$$) has a single Wide Skyscraper ad unit in the nav menu, matching colours.

I get good CTR, about 20-25% and the CPC has been steadily rising for about 3 months now.

and you are right trying to cram to many adverts onto the screen makes people blank them out, lowring the revenue

i think it makes good ad sense (forgive the pun) to strike the balance between ads/content.

G must consider this when feeding ads, and when trying to weed out "built for ads*ns*" sites?

4 ad units per page (unless it's a REALLY huge page content wise - and then it probably should be split up anyway), seems like WAY TOO MUCH to me. IMHO.

then again, i still have to work full-time at a "real job," so my money making strategies are questionable at best.

The limit is 3 ads unit and 1 link unit in the same page.

 

Setup a custom channel for each ad type and see which yields the best cpc and then test different combinations. It's a trade-off between website appearance/usability and $.

I tried testing this on my Web site and I ended up earning less. I posted a thread on here with some semi-specific figures. Some people say they earn more, I didn't and there are others who have had the same experience as I. I don't believe that if you only have one ad unit, that Google will display the highest paying ads.

The only way to find out is to test it yourself.

Google does attempt to show the highest paying ads. That's why you'd sometimes see only 2 ads in a 4 ad unit. Those are the higher paying ads. Just imaging how much more money they make by just displaying 10-20% higher paying ads?!!! So I'm sure it's optimised...

 

Here's my figure yesterday:

On one 300x250 (2 ads): $.29/click
On one 160x600 (5 ads): $.5/click

I removed the 300x250 ad and all the ad goes to the 160x600. Still waiting for my results.

 

I still think the single biggest factor for earning $$$ on adsense is traffic. The more traffic you have, the more $$$ you'll make.

But if you have reached your traffic peak, then try to optimize the ads that are served on the pages.

 

It has nothign to do with #of ads.

 

Could you elaborate on that, Ned? So are you saying it's totally dependent on impressions and click averages?
