Lets say there is a certain site that had a high PR but after the last update lost it to "0" The outbound links on it have certain keyword combinations giving higher positions to the sites they are pointing to. My question is: Will these positions be effected even if the mentioned site is big, relative to the ones it links to and of highest importance and quality?
If the site went to 0 PR is was probably due to penalization for selling text links, this would mean all outbound links don't recieve any Pagerank or SEO weight from the backlink, which in return would effect SERPs because you no longer have that backlink, in theory of course
What about the site itself? Will it lose its keyword positions? If it won't, then this could be a wrong theory Can anybody share their experience on this, i mean, did anybody lose their strong site's PR and positions afterwords?
In theory PR affects your sites ranking specially if the keyword is a very popular one. Websites with higher PR tends to be on the first pages when it comes to the same keyword when compared with other sites with lower PR. However, when Google first implemented their penalty, some webmaster reports that there are no changes in their traffic volume so I guess that means they still rank well on their chosen keywords. When Google first penalized my blog, there were no changes in the volume of my traffic, however, my chosen keywords are very niche so I don't think that was the problem. I can't say the same for popular keywords.
Thank you Natalie, it's good to know at least that less popular keywords still rank. It will mean that the site will keep sending nonpopular keyword power. We still don't know if the same happens to popular keywords...But can anybody prove that G penalizes the the site and lowers its actual PR, what if it's only the issue of the visible toolbar value? All this link selling is done to sell/buy the "visible PR" Why should Google penalize the important and valuable site? In my opinion it just illiminates the whole "buy/sell links" fuss by showing no PR but keeps the actual rank hidden with the site on its keyword position levels...
The actual site being penalized won't lose its SERPs, but any site getting Pagerank or SEO weight from it will.
If G keeps the site's SERPs, it will keep its important natural linkpower. It should only ignore the paid links. I might be mistaken but this way of treating the issue seems reasonable to me
